10 years working in the forensic identification section with the Saanich Police Department
4 years as a Wildland Firefighter with the British Columbia Ministry of Forests
Bachelor's Degree in Forensic Identification with a Fire Investigation certificate
Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator by the National Association of Fire Investigators
Certified Fire Investigation Instructor by the National Association of Fire Investigators
Certified Fingerprint Examiner by Public Safety Canada
Trained in Crime Scene Investigation at the Canadian Police College
Trained in Footwear Impression evidence by William Bodziac of the FBI.
Shane has given evidence in British Columbia in both provincial and supreme court. He has been declared an expert in general forensic identification, finger and palm print evidence, footwear evidence and fire investigation evidence including cause, determination and fire behaviour.
Prior to serving as a police officer Shane had many years in the trades as a plumber and renovator which provided him with a strong grasp of building techniques. This is especially helpful in determining fire behaviour and movement. Shane also had four seasons as a wildland firefighter in British Columbia, providing him with first hand knowledge of live fire behaviour and the destruction it leaves behind.
